Valentine's Cookies

Emma and I baked Valentine's cookies today!

I wish that I could say that we had tons of fun, (well, she did) but I was mostly stressed out. For those of you who don't know, I am very type-A and suffer from mild (self-diagnosed) OCD.

Let me paint you a brief picture:

Flour was everywhere, Emma asked me a million questions, she wanted to do it all and I had to keep explaining that she couldn't, she kept moving her step stool all over the kitchen and I tripped on it several times...lol.

But, the cookies were successfully completed and Emma loved it, especially the decorating.

Our ingredients for some YUM-O sugar cookies (my favorite)!

My sweet Emma with her heart-shaped cookie cutter (the purple one behind her is a butterfly and she insisted that we make 3 butterfly cookies - 1 for me, 1 for Daddy, 1 for her).

Emma's first time handling a mixer.  It scared her a little at first.

Look at the mischievous look on her face.

This was Emma's first time cutting out cookies.  And honestly, I can't remember the last time I did this.  Mom?

 Excited to try one!

We made our own icing too (this was a first for me - I'm not a huge fan of icing)!

Decorating time! (Notice Brody in the background?)

Naturally Emma went for the pink icing first.  My girly girl.

The finished product.  We were very proud.  Mark came home and ate the pink one with the red heart in the middle right away - to Emma's dismay - I forgot that she wanted that one!  oops.  We gave her a different cookie and she forgot about it real quick. :-)

Hi Alison - it's Mom - Please tell Emma that Grandma thinks her cookies are beautiful! And, I don't remember the last time we baked cookies together; it's been way too long - need to do that together soon! Love you, xoxo

LOL... you two are funny. You did a beautiful job. I totally understand about the self-diagnosed OCD! I was making a cake last night, and Caleb had to move his stool all over the kitchen, which also made me trip or stump my toe several times (something hitting me feet is a fear of mine). He has to hold the hand mixer by himself at least for a minute or so and he wants to do everything, which he cannot do (or I just have not been brave enough to let him have free reign in my kitchen... he's only 5! But they turned out beautiful and each time it will get better.

Oh, those look so yummy. Well worth the anxiety I think:)

Now, why didn't she make a butterfly for her sweet little brother? I know he couldn't eat it....but poor Brody!

Those cookies look delicious! And it really is worth it to forge ahead through the flour and the mess - you'll both always remember these times. In case your recipe doesn't include it, try adding a teaspoon of mace to a recipe making 2-3 dozen. It adds the most amazing flavor!

Thanks so much for being a part of our prayer team!

Started reading your blog. The cookies are awesome..you should share the receipe. Seems that Emma had a wonderful time. As you described it, it's similar to when I let Luke help and he ends up eating flour amongst other things...:) Chebet

You guys did a great job! And from the pictures it doesn't look too messy. Heck, I'd make more of a mess than that! But then I'm the one who has to clean it so I guess that makes it okay.

Stopping by from SITS...welcome!

These look so great!! And I'm totally with you on the letting them "help" thing. Very hard to control my self-diagnosed OCD as well.

And Brody!! He's yummy too (two boys of my own 3 and 6 - I miss those gummy smiles).

Welcome to SiTS!!! Em

I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't equate kids in the kitchen with love and harmony. I'm not OCD, I'm just easily annoyed.
Welcome to the SITS community :)
